The main view
The main view shows you the GPS signal level and connection status of WAYRUN accessory.
Three green bands, together with a description of the received signal level, measure the GPS signal while the connection status of the accessory can be deduced from the heart symbol status; in particular:
-
Heart absent: accessory is not connected
-
Heart present but not blinking: accessory is connected, no sync with the band
-
Heart present and blinking: Accessory connected and running, heart rate recorded
Warning:
It's very important that the GPS signal is strong enough and the heartbeat is detected at the start of training. In fact these devices are essential for the measurement during the exercise because values measured in a wrong way could affect the quality of the training and the accuracy of the voice prompts.

Tapping the "start" button at the top, workout will start. If you have predefined training program, the application asks you to select a program; you still have the possibility to start a workout without a specific program. In the following section we will see the training view.
|
The training
The screen on the right shows the standard visualization displayed during the workout. Starting at the top we can find the calories burned from the beginning of the current lap and next right (small) the total calories burned from the start; these values will be the same if the session is composed of a single lap. A little further down there is the symbol of the heart that beats at each detected heartbeat. If the user has selected limits in manual settings, the symbol of the heart is located within the set range proportionally positioned to the current heart rate
The middle number in red is the heart rate detected from the accessory WAYRUN currently connected; below there are the average values for the last lap and for the entire session.
The green section out of the screen is fixed and shows the elapsed time since the last lap and since the beginning of the training session; the GPS signal indicator is placed on the right.
Below there are three buttons, the first to stop the current lap and start the next one, the second to end the current session and the last to display the iPod view; this view is also accessible from outside a training session; it allows to check playlists, and controls execution, pause, and transition between tracks and more.
|
 |
|
Moving the green screen on the right leads to a second display that shows distance and speed. The first two values above represent the total distance covered from the beginning of the training session and the distance covered in the last lap. At the center we find the instant speed determined by the GPS (this speed is indicative only and has a detection threshold below which there is no measurement). Below there are the values of average speed per lap and total.
During the workout session you can close a "lap" and create a new one that automatically becomes the current one. To do this you simply tap the "Lap" button, a voice warns you that you have close it. In terms of data, all averages, maximum and minimum values are collected, for entire session and per lap. So you can check detailed statistics at lap level, as we shall see later.

 |
iPod view
From the "workout" view and the initial view you can reach the "iPod" view by tapping a small iPod icon. This view allows you to control the iPod-device application, starting or pauses the current playlist, you can go to the next or previous song in the playlist, and you can select a custom playlist by selecting individual albums / songs from the iPod library. When the application starts, the playlist is set to the last defined within the iPod application, you can continue listening to the music if it was already running at launch. During workout session, when the application sends voice in the headphones, the volume of iPod music is slightly lowered ("duck" effect) to allow the user to perceive more clearly the voice message.

Calendar view
It is the main “Workout” view. The Calendar view is the set of registered training sessions spread over a calendar. The lower part shows the current month in which only one day can be selected at a time. Any existing workout session for that day will appear in the sliding list at the top.
Existing recorded sessions are represented inside each day-box by single green bullets, in the case of single sessions, or by a pair of overlapping green bullets, in the case of multiply sessions.
Directly from this view you can delete a training session by pressing the "Edit" button and tapping the red bullet at the corresponding session to delete. Just after you must confirm the deletion by tapping the "Delete" button on the right.
Each session is named by default with the date and the time in which it was recorded; under it there is a comment that shows the distance and the number of laps covered.
|
 |
|
Touch the line of the session in the list to access the detail of all the values recorded for the session, these values are shown in the following screenshots.
|
Session details
In the training "Session details" view you can get aggregated data such as medium, maximum speed, heart rate minimum and maximum, total distance, etc. It could be particularly useful the Data Graph locating at the bottom, reporting the amount of time the Heart Rate remained inbound, above and below the defined range (if it was previously defined in Configuration View).
Scrolling the list of values to the end you can access the list of "laps" that have been covered within the session. Touching them you will go to a detail view of a single lap, which contains the same items but restricted to that particular lap.
Both in the "Session details" view and in the "Lap details" view you can touch the "Show Map" button located at the top right in order to get a map containing the full session route or the lap route (depending on your choose). You can get a "Map" or "Satellite" view switching through the "Map/Satellite" Segmented Button. At the top Center there is another segmented button with the following segments:
-
Reset - get back the map to the standard zoom level; because you can zoom in and out and move the map with standard iPhone/iPod touch, you can use that button to get back to the standard predefined view
-
Points - it allows you to highlight several points along the current route over the map;
The last feature allows you to set highlighted points along the route (represented in purple on the figure on the right); touching each of them you can obtain informations regarding the conditions occurred at that point, such as what time was it at that point, which was the distance, the heart rate, the speed, the altitude.
To obtain the detailed list or all the informations stored for a point you can simply touch the blue arrow inside the information bubble.

Program View
The "Program View" is one of the most innovative and effective for the assisted sport management. Using it you can program a training session splitting it in several phases, and for each of them setting the excercise type to perform and the constraints to keep. In the Program View you can define any number of "program" (training type) you like. Each of them is composed of several subsequent training phases and for each phase you can define a precise objective; e.g. you can define an initial warm-up phase and then real training phases or you can alternate "stress" phases and "break" phases. The "Program View" allow you to define a new program customizing its name: you have simply to touch the "Edit" Button, located at the top right and then touch the green "+" symbol close to the text "Add Program". So a new program called "Unnamed Program" will be created; touching him you can change that name; after the change you have to touch the "End". At this point you have to define the phases of the program; to do that you have to touch the "program line" and a new "Phase View" will appear, containing all the phases of the program (initially, that list is empty). In order to populate the list and to define new phases you have to touch the "edit" button again and then touch the green "+" symbol close to the text "Add Phase"; so new phases called "Unnamed Phase" will appear. You can customize the name simply touching it. When you have defined all phases of your training, touch the "End" Button to save; you can re-touch any of them to customize it. To customize them you should fill in a form composed as described below:
-
Duration
-
Based On - It's the duration type ("Time" or "Distance"); e.g. you can define a phase lasting 10 minutes and another 2 km long; you have to touch that field to change it
-
Amount - It's a quantity; e.g., in the previous example, 10 (minutes) or 2 (Km); you have to touch that field to change it
-
Unit - It's the measure unit; e.g., in the previous esample "minutes" or "km"; you have to touch that field to change it
-
Action
-
Action Type, Acceptable values are the Hearth Rate under a threshold, over a threshold or in a range; you have to touch that field to change it
-
Amount - It's a quantity referred to th Action Type; e.g. the threshold under which Hearth Rate has to remain; you have to touch that field to change it
-
Amount - It's a second quantity if the Action Type is a range, e.g. if the Action Type is the Heart Rate to mantain between 80 and 120 BPM, the prevoious Amount field will be 80 and the current Amount field will be 120;you have to touch that field to change it
-
Unit - Measure Unit for the Action Type defined; e.g. in the previous examples, it should be BPM; other acceptable values could be KM/H (for speed); you have to touch that field to change it
-
Alert
-
Initial Spoken Message - It's the message you receive by headset when you enter in that phase; touching it you access a view that allows you to customize the message having the possibility to listen the message just typed
-
Announce End Flag - It's a flag to set the vocal alert of starting of the phase; if its value is "1", you can set the number of seconds before the vocal announce (next field)
-
Advance Time - It's the number of second before the vocal alert announcing the start of the phase; this value appear only if the previous fielad i set to "1"; touching the value you can custimizethe field
When all phases are set up, and you are ready for the training, you can select the program you prefer. Touching it, the software will start from the Phase 1, and it will follow you informing you by headset about your training phases as programmed

Total View
This view provides you a comprehensive view of all the values related to all the training session recorded by iHearthRate. Such values are updated at every training session and they are cumulative, i.e. they are calculated summing the values of previous sessions and the value of the current session.
The values updated and stored are:
-
Total Distance walked
-
Total Burned Calories
-
Total Training time
-
Max Speed
-
Starting Recording date
-
Last Reset Date
You can reset that values setting all of them to 0; in that case the last reset date will be updated to the current one.
Attntion: deleting the sessions from the calendar view, the total amounts will not be recalculated in accordance; you must reset all the values setting them to 0 to modify te totals.
|
 |
Setting View
The Setting View allows you to configure all user information. It's important rightly setting all configuration parameter before starting the training sessions, because some values, as burned calories, are strictly related to that configuration parameters.
Configuration Parameter are:
-
Units - you can choose among Km and Mi (Kilometers and Miles); all iHearthRate views will behave in accordance
-
Limits Type - you can choose among "None" and "Manual"; if setted to Manual you can specify Minimum And Maximum Heart Rate you would remaining in during the training session. You have this feature also in the Program by Phases Management
-
Sex
-
Height
-
Weight
-
Year of Birth
-
Maximum Hearth Rate - it's the theoretical maximum hearth rate, usually approximated by the formula(220-age)
-
Resting Hearth Rate - It's the Heart rate measured lying down on a bed after a few minutes of relaxation
-
GPS Warning- Enable / disable a warning in the headphones if the GPS signal level is too low
-
Pronuncia Info - Provides information through a voice message by the headphones at regular intervals of time
-
Info Ogni (m) - If the previous option is set to "Yes", then quantifies the space in meters between two consecutive vocal messages
